Mouth

The opening at the top of a bottle.

Neck Finish

Following the opening, this top section holds the threads that match a certain cap or closure. The first number indicates diameter, and the second number indicates thread style.

Bead

The ridge at the bottom of the neck.

Shoulder

The area of the bottle that joins the narrow neck to the wide body.

Label Panel

The area of the body where a label or silk screening can be applied. It can be indented or flush to the bottle walls.

 
Base

The bottom of the bottle which may be marked with a recycle code. It may also have indentations used during filling or for printing orientation.

Overflow

The maximum volume of a bottle when filled right to the top.

Threads

The spiral of plastic along the neck finish onto which a closure is twisted.

Standard Capacity

The volume of a bottle usually measured when contents are filled to the shoulder area.

Wall

The thickness of the bottle measured at the sides.
